Bluebird Haiku is a public art project funded in part by a Denver Arts & Venues P.S. You Are Here grant in cooperation with the Bluebird Business Improvement District.
The project was conceived by Greg Davis and Camille Davis, a father and daughter team, as a way to cultivate a love for Denver's public art and engage youth in their community. The Bluebird Business Improvement District area was chosen based on its rich and eclectic history and proximity to East High School.
The project involves soliciting haiku poems from the community describing the history and "essence" of the Bluebird District. 20 haikus selected by East High School students will be painted on the sidewalk in 10 art installations. Additional accompanying art work will be created by East High School students at "art incubator sites" within the project area working with local businesses.
I want to create
By doing that I can help
Fill the world with art
The Bluebird Haiku design involves painting 10 "installations" on Colfax Avenue between East High School and the Bluebird Theater. Each installation covers 7 sidewalk squares with 2 haikus and a replicating pattern of bluebirds. For more information on specific locations, visit presentations in the "Downloads" section.
